Spring Concert Coming Up!

The Winkler Community Male Choir will be presenting their spring concert at 7 pm on Sunday April 21st at the Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church.  Ray Giesbrecht leads this group of men, assembled from about eleven different church communities in and surrounding Winkler.  This collection of men having been together for six years, continue to find they enjoy the weekly rehearsals and various performance opportunities.

This past December, the choir became somewhat adventurous and presented a concert in Killarney, Manitoba at the Shamrock Centre to an appreciative assembly.  Choirs had been part of many people’s lives in and around Killarney as well but as has become all too common, most choirs long since disbanded, so to hear a choir again seemed to be something of a treat.  As a result of that trip, there were many who had expressed a desire to be part of a choir again.

Because of that interest, the Winkler Community Male Choir is inviting men interested in singing in a large choir, to come be part of a rehearsal the afternoon of Sunday April 21st and then to also be part of the evening performance.  The rehearsal will start at 2:30 sharp and end promptly at 4:30 pm.
Any men interested in taking part in the rehearsal and performance can register by sending an e-mail to harmonyforhope@edenhealthcare.ca .  Let them know your name, which community you’re from and what voice you sing (i.e. 1st tenor, 2nd tenor, baritone or bass).

This is intended to be a fund-raising event for the work of Eden Health Care Services.  The focus for the organization this year is the housing program.  Almost 20 years ago Enns Courts was built for the purpose of providing safe affordable housing along with appropriate support services for individuals and families on their journey of recovery.  As is imaginable, 20 years of service does wear on each of the apartments and they each are in significant need of being thoroughly renovated beyond what simple maintenance can accomplish.  Kitchen cabinets need to be replaced, bathrooms need fixtures replaced, flooring is worn out and closet doors no longer work properly.

Because of the generous support of some community businesses, the cost of presenting the concert are all covered and any donation that is received that evening will go directly to the Enns Courts Renewal Project.

Access CU Gives Donation To Eden Foundation

Written by Chris Sumner on Tuesday, 12 March 2013

Left to right; Eden Foundation's Earl Reimer accepts donation from Manager of Personal Lending Mark Peters
Access Credit Union, on behalf of Corporate and Winkler branch, made an $8,000 donation to the Eden Foundation yesterday. Foundation Director of Development Earl Reimer tells us the money will be used to cover some of the costs associated with the special events the organization hosts on an annual basis like Head for the Hills, dessert nights, and concerts.
"These funds that Access Credit Union provide to us help us cover some of those costs," said Reimer after the cheque presentation. "That makes it possible for donors, when they make donations to riders or they are personally involved, (it) allows the entire amount of the donations being given to Eden to be used fully and completely for the work that Eden Health Care Services does."
Eden Foundation is the fundraising arm of Winkler based Eden Health Care Services which specializes in the delivery of mental health and wellness programs and services.
"The reason we decided to make this donation today is because Eden Health Care Services provides such a wonderful wide range of services that so many people can use," said Chris Hildebrand Regional Manager Central for Access Credit Union. "What we've noticed is as the world gets smaller, our community gets bigger and it's not just about our direct area. It's about the region and the province, and so many people can use these services so we want to help them any way we can."
Reimer tells us the support means a lot to the organization.
"Mental health issues are usually dealt with by one in five people, so it's not as if it's a rare thing that happens within our community, it's very common," said Reimer. "Eden Health Care Services is there for that purpose, and Access Credit Union is a partner with us in helping to make that happen."
