Out of the Blue

Out of the Blue invites youto wear blue on Southern Health-Santé Sud Regional Blue Day
Show your support for mental health awareness on Thursday April 3, 2014 by wearing blue.

Out of the Blue is a regional public awareness and education program that aims to inspire and inform students and youth, residents, businesses and agencies in our region. The aim is to get everyone involved in making positive mental health a priority, creating a new voice for mental health and mental illness (please note: the Out of the Blue website has not yet been updated to reflect merger).
This new voice will:

  • Increase awareness and develop broad-based support for positive mental health
  • Increase awareness of suicide as a problem that is preventable, through a focus on education and advocacy of positive mental health
  • Reduce the stigma associated with mental illness
  • Support the development and implementation of community-driven suicide awareness and prevention programs
  • Promote accurate mental health information;
  • Encourage help seeking behavior by open, direct and honest talk about suicide; and,
  • Spread hope for recovery

Renewing a Partnership

On Friday, March 14th, Access Credit Union presented a cheque for $8,000 to Eden Foundation.  It represents a renewal of a relationship that has been in existence for many years.  On hand to receive the cheque from Access Credit Union Central Reional Manager Chris Hildebrand were Eden Health Care Services Chief Executive Officer, James Friesen and Eden Foundation's Director, Earl Reimer.

 Ms. Hildebrand stated, "We feel that this is a very good donation because Eden Foundation encompasses so many different organizations. The residential services, Pathways, Segue Career Options, Recovery of Hope. So this way we are able to help many different groups with one donation, and we are proud to be a part of that."

The money received will be used to support the efforts of other fund-raising events that are on the calendar of events for Eden Foundation.  Participants and visitors will see recognition of Access' support at all of the events.  Keep watch for the Spring Concert at the end of March, the IronMan Golf Tournament in June, the Winkler Tractor Trek in July and the Head for the Hills bike event in early September.

Each of those events are an occasion for the community to come participate in an area of interest, to hear the stories of people served by the various services of the Eden organization and to take part in supporting the work.
