Thursday June 27th was a great day! Eleven hardy souls took to the links at
Winkler Golf Course and completed 100 holes of golf. The day started with breakfast at 6:30 a.m.
and the official tee-off was at 7 a.m.
At five o’clock that same day everyone was finished and back in, sitting
down to supper.
The IronMan Golf Tournament is a fund-raising idea first
started in 2001. This year was a
memorable year for a number of reasons.
The first being that the weather was most accommodating; except for a
healthy breeze later in the day and a brief cloud burst that took a few
late-day golfers by surprise. The second
reason this event was memorable was that there were more than double the number
of participants from the year previous with 12 people taking part. At the end of the day not only was the supper
memorable but so was the conversation.
Then finally, the fact that more than $17,000 was raised by participants
contributed to the pleasant memory for the day.
Mark Litman has been a regular golfer in this event right
from the very first event back in 2001 and sees it as a worthwhile venture. Mark brought in the largest amount of donations, narrowly beating out the Scotia Bank team of Braeden Bjornson and Michael Chute.

The funds raised go to the work of Eden Health Care
Services, in providing counseling services, training and employment placement
and housing. This year’s special effort
is to bolster resources to help refurbish the apartments in both Winkler and
Steinbach.
Eden Foundation is deeply grateful for the involvement of
each of the participants in the event, for the people who donated funds to
these golfers and for the major sponsors for their generosity in making this event
possible.
Planning for IronMan 2014 will be underway shortly and for
anyone interested in taking part in the event and raising funds, should
consider keeping late June 2014 open.
The actual date hasn’t been established yet but it will be soon.
